An Interview with Brian Moss (Vicious Pink, Mirazma, Drug Free America) by Carol Pittman of Seeji Music |

About Vicious Pink
Contrary to common belief Vicious Pink did record an album entitled Blue. Produced by Tony Mansfield. The album was recorded in the summer of 84 at Ridge Farm Studio Sussex England and mixed at Eel Pie Island Studio London ( Pete Townsend's Studio ). The album was never released by Parlophone. Only a compilation of singles was later released in the USA and Canada. Rumours on the net... 1 gig ever Not True, turning up late for the show at the Ritz NYC Not True.... The delay was only for the sound check, because of the incompatible software of the UK Fairlight Sampler to the USA Fairlight that was hired.... Tony Mansfield sorted it out..! VP did Radio and Press interviews in the meantime.. (The after show party was great and all were welcome...) The show went on and on time, as did many back Home.. Lot's of shows and Pa's happened even when VP were recording the album Blue. The story will Continue... Brian Moss has other music projects including Drug Free America and Mirazma. Their myspace profiles are below. Brian is also working on a definitive VP CD. |

Drug Free America |
Seeji Music:
You are involved and have been involved in many projects and bands such as Vicious Pink, Drug Free America and Mirazma . Wasn't your band Vicious Pink one of the first bands given the name and term, techno?
Brian Moss:
Yes and in March 1982 it was the headline of one of our interviews in Sounds, a Uk music paper. It said Techno (pyshco) Poppers. You can see a scan of the original on the Vicious Pink info website. (we also had a song called Techno Pyshco that was never released)
Seeji Music:
"8:15 to Nowhere" was a huge club hit in the mid 80s. What instruments and equipment did you use to pioneer that early techno sound?
Brian Moss:
We used a Roland Bassline TB 303, Roland 606 Drumatix, Roland Jupiter 8, Korg MS 20, Roland Juno 60, Fairlight sampler and SSL desk. Tony Mansfield was our producer.
I think we were the first band to have chart / Club success with the TB 303. On CCant You See, 8.15 To Nowhere and Fetish. |

What do you think of the techno artists today and what advice do you have for them?
I like a lot of them mostly the harder sounding stuff. I would say to them dont add too much cheeseness to their work. Dont forget the roots of Techno, Use some old school instruments, experiment dont let the computer take all the creativity away. When we started out there were no rules, no music Technology couses no PCs no CDs and no midi.

David Bowie Low, Alice Cooper Love it to
